Jakub Góralski - Manager of the Oil Bottling Plant -Manufacturing Plant in Brzeg
I started working for ZT “Kruszwica” S.A. as a trainee in a crushing plant, where I acquainted myself with all the technological processes by going through all the production stages. It was a good opportunity to learn teamwork.
The staff were very attentive and patient and showed me how the plant operates. What I value a lot is the Lean Sigma training, including Kaizen workshops, when I visited a Bunge plant in Bruck, Austria. Participating in Lean projects, I could get a different perspective of the problems occurring in my department, ways of solving them and the tools that can be used to eliminate the reasons and effects of such problems. Working at the crushing plant, I also learnt how important it is to carefully listen to the staff, their ideas for things like better safety at work. By the end of my work at the department I was a specialist in technical issues. Since March 2008 I have been a divisional manager at the Oil Bottling Plant.
My next department was the Quality Control Lab where I spent about two months. This is where I saw the Company's operation from a different perspective (non-production), although the application of analytical techniques for testing samples from all departments reminded me of the times when I worked there as a student trainee.
Then, I moved to a Refinery Plant. It took me….half a year to get to know the department and all its technological processes. However, at that time I learnt a lot about the issues related to the management and organisation of the department’s work.
The proposal to participate in the project regarding the construction of a new Bottling Plant in Brzeg that I received in June 2007 was a huge challenge, but at the same time an opportunity to take part in a department’s creation from scratch. I was responsible for the coordination of work related to the adaptation of the premises for the new Bottling Plant and preparation of equipment for assembling a production line. Such concepts as “human resources management” were no longer theory, since concurrently with a new line we were creating a new team. When the new Oil Bottling Plant was officially opened (December 3rd, 2007) I became the acting manager of the Oil Bottling Plant.
I joined ZT "Kruszwica" S.A. right after I graduated from the university and I immediately joined the BUNGE EUROPE Young Engineer Program. It is a very interesting corporate training programme for twenty young engineers from various European countries. We get new experience in our profession and at the same time we are in touch with other Bunge employees in Europe. The first meeting took place in October 2006 in Budapest, second in May 2007 in Mannheim, third in December 2007 in Warsaw and fourth in June 2008 in Ravenna in Italy. During each training session we get to know details of technologies, quality and safety aspects, we learn how to predict and solve problems as well as how to cooperate at various levels.
